PS2emu Alpha 01 is an early experimental emulator of Sony PlayStation 2 software for Windows PC. It was developed by Roor, shunt and Scar_T and was released in May 2004, at a time when emulation for PlayStation 2 was still in its infancy. The project explored techniques to improve the performance of the emulation, including a custom approach of dynamic recompilation. However, the initial release was a proof of concept and not a full solution for playing a large library of PS2 games. Looking at the old release notes it says it supports the PlayStation 2 BIOS and some demos , it does mention Super Bust A Move as a commercial game that would work . The dynamic recompiler was still less than 10 percent done, and sound support had not been fully tested. PS2emu is thus primarily of historical interest to users researching the early development of console emulation.
