The galaxy has entered a new age of extreme futuristic racing in F-Zero X. Ordinary motorsports have been replaced by ultra-fast anti-gravity machines capable of speeds that would be unthinkable for conventional vehicles. The F-Zero Championship race has become one of the most dangerous and prestigious sporting events throughout the universe. Pilots from different worlds, backgrounds, and organisations gather to race on massive courses suspended high above futuristic worlds. Every racer comes into the championship with the same goal – to prove they are the fastest, most capable pilot in the galaxy. As one of the many racers of the championship, the player gets behind the wheel of a futuristic racing machine and competes for extreme speed. Each machine has its own advantages and disadvantages. Some are built for very high top speeds, some have better acceleration, handling, or durability. The championship tracks are filled with different challenges and that makes for an important part of the player’s journey, the right machine choice. A car that is great on a straight track can be difficult to manage on tracks with a lot of tight corners and intricate turns. The F-Zero Championship is not your average racing competition. The tracks are intended to push both the machines and the pilots to the very limit. Racers blast through huge, futuristic tracks with loops, jumps, tunnels, steep drops, winding sections, narrow pathways, and sharp turns. At these speeds a small error can send a machine into a barrier or another competitor. Thus, the capacity to concentrate when moving at tremendous speed is just as important as having a powerful machine.

F-Zero X provides some blisteringly fast 3D racing that requires fast reflexes and pinpoint control. Players can select from a large roster of futuristic racing machines, each of which has different combinations of speed, acceleration, handling and durability. Races can have up to 30 machines at a time, which creates crowded, chaotic contests where racers are always jockeying for position. Tracks are filled with tricky corners, steep drops, jumps, loops, tunnels and other hazards that must be carefully steered through at very high speeds. One of the biggest differences between the game and your average racing title, is the hardcore fighting system. Players can ram other machines and use attacks to hurt opponents. But collisions cost energy and can damage the player's own machine, so driving recklessly can quickly lead to elimination. Therefore, successful players need to know when to attack and when to just race. There are several modes in the game that give different experiences. Grand Prix takes players through a series of races where the championship points decide the overall winner. Time Trial is all about beating tracks as quickly as possible, while Versus has you head-to-head against friends. In death race the goal switches from being the first to finish to destroying your opponents. X Cup adds further replayability by creating random track arrangements

Start with choosing a pilot and a futuristic racing machine that matches your driving style. Select the game mode you want and start the race. Drive safely on the track. Use the controller to speed up and turn your machine. F-Zero X is very fast, and small steering mistakes can cause major crashes, so learning the layout of each track is important. If you’re about to go round a tight bend, avoid sudden movements, reduce your speed and steer accurately. Keep an eye on your machine’s energy, as collisions and attacks can drain it. If your energy is too low your machine may be blown up. You can attack opponents with side attacks and collisions, but use aggressive attacks carefully. In Grand Prix mode, try to finish near the front of the race, because championship points are important to win the overall championship. Practice on the hard courses in Time Trial, race against your friends in Versus mode, and if you want a little more of a challenge, try out Death Race.
