Top Gun: Second Mission is a combat flight game developed and published by Konami for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is a sequel to the original Top Gun game, and puts the player in control of an F-14 Tomcat through a series of dangerous aerial operations. The Japanese version was released as Top Gun: Dual Fighters and the North American version was released as Top Gun: The Second Mission in January 1990. The game also made it to Europe and Australia in 1991. The game combines aerial combat with a variety of mission objectives, enemy aircraft, missiles, ground targets and defensive manoeuvres. Players can select from various types of missiles prior to a mission and utilise the F-14’s Vulcan Cannon in combat. The NES game also has a one-player versus mode and a two-player dogfight mode in addition to the main single-player missions.

After completing the last Top Gun assignment, the player is back in the cockpit for yet another risky combat operation. You are a fighter pilot in an F-14 Tomcat, fighting against hostile aircraft and other military targets. The new operation is said to be a far more deadly follow-up mission with enemy planes, tanks, ships and satellite-based weapons. The game doesn’t rely too much on cinematic storytelling. Instead, the story is told through the mission structure and the targets you face in each operation. The pilot must survive enemy attacks, and use the F-14's weapons and manoeuvrability to reach and destroy important targets.

Top Gun: The Second Mission is all about dogfighting from a first person perspective inside the cockpit. You play as an F-14 Tomcat, flying through combat zones and keeping an eye on enemy positions, speed, missiles and warnings. The aircraft can perform turns, dives, loops and barrel rolls, giving the player multiple ways of avoiding incoming attacks. Players can choose from three kinds of missiles before each mission: The AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-7 Sparrow and AIM-54 Phoenix. The primary unlimited-ammo weapon is the Vulcan Cannon. Missiles are unlocked when an enemy or a target is locked on, so position and timing are important during combat. The game also features single-player vs. combat and two-player dogfight mode. You can fight against computer-controlled opponents or another player.

How to Play Top Gun: The Second Mission | ROM-DOWNLOAD

To play Top Gun: The Second Mission, start the game and choose from the single-player, one-player versus, or two-player dogfight modes. For main missions, select your missile type before taking off, then use the D-pad to fly the F-14 through the combat area. A to control speed and B to fire the Vulcan Cannon. When an enemy is locked and enters the targeting area, press B twice to fire a missile. Barrel roll (double tap left/right quickly) to avoid incoming attacks. Change your speed when you need more control over targeting or evasive movement.
