Daytona USA does not feature a traditional storyline or campaign narrative. Rather, the game centers around competitive stock car racing. Players choose a race car and join one of the available circuits. The goal is to do laps, pass other cars and cross the finish line before the timer runs out. Each race has a difficulty of their own. Players need to learn the track, know the corners, control their speed and avoid crashing. The game is rewarding for players who can maintain a high speed in the best racing line. In races, players compete against several computer-controlled vehicles. Overtaking opponents is an important part of the experience, but being in control through the corners is just as important. Drafting is a method players can use by getting behind another car for a period of time and then attempting to pass. The goal is to finish races and to improve your time and place. Daytona USA is a fast arcade racing game. Players select a car and a racing track. When the race starts the player has to accelerate, steer, brake and manage the vehicle around the track. The original Saturn version has three main courses in the game. Players have to reach checkpoints before the timer runs out. If you make it through checkpoints you gain more time. The game rewards aggressive driving but it needs to be reigned in. Players can draft behind opponents, brake before corners, accelerate out of turns and attempt to stay on the fastest racing line possible.
