MSR does not have a traditional character based story line. The game is instead centered around the career of a street racer. There are a few cars and race challenges for the players to begin with. The main point is to show that you are good at driving, by completing races and collecting Kudos. You earn points for driving with style, precision and control, not just for getting to the finish first. As players improve their driving abilities they progress through different chapters and events. Players may unlock more vehicles and challenges by winning races. Players explore detailed recreations of London, Tokyo and San Francisco in the game. Each city has a different environment and road design for players to adjust their driving style to. Some events are about speed, others are more about precision and stylish driving. They have to learn the roads and the corners, they have to learn how to manage their speed and not crash for no reason. The career progression acts as a carrot on a stick for players to increase their Kudos rating and unlock more difficult events. As players progress, cars and challenges will be increasingly demanding. The idea is to learn the driving system of the game and get a high Kudos rating to become one of the best street racers.

MSR is a racing simulation that relies heavily on arcade-style accessibility. Players race through detailed city environments and compete in various racing events. The game rewards speed and driving style. Players earn Kudos for controlled and impressive driving maneuvers. Drifting, cornering, overtaking and keeping the speed can help a player’s Kudos performance. Races can be adversely affected by collisions with obstacles or other vehicles. The game has a Garage where players can browse, select, test drive and challenge for new cars. Time Attack is a mode where players can practice unlocked circuits, record hot laps and race against ghost cars. Quick Race allows players to create their own races on unlocked cars and circuits. There is also multiplayer racing for up to two local players in the game.

Launch the game and go to your Garage. Choose an available vehicle. Pick a Street Racing event, Quick Race, or Time Attack. Choose the desired city and circuit. The race begins and you speed away from the starting line. Steer with the steering controls to hold your position on corners. Ease off before tight turns and get on the gas out of them. Avoid collisions unnecessarily. Maintain a clear racing line when overtaking opponent cars. Perform cool driving tricks to earn Kudos. Complete challenges and races to increase your Kudos rating. Progress to unlock more vehicles and events. Time Attack – Practice hard circuits. Test drive different vehicles to see which car fits your driving style best.
