Killer Instinct was developed by Rare and published for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1995 and is a classic 2D fighting game. Nintendo's 16-bit console gets the Ultratech tournament and its roster of fighters, with a gameplay system focused around fast attacks, special moves, combo chains and Combo Breakers. The game can be played by one or two local players, and includes characters such as Jago, Fulgore, Cinder, Glacius, Sabrewulf, Spinal, Chief Thunder, Black Orchid, Riptor and T.J. Combo. In a simple fighting game you simply exchange individual attacks . Killer Instinct is all about stringing attacks together into longer combos . Opening attacks can be used to start combos, special moves can be executed, a Combo Breaker can be used to break an opponent’s combo, and special finishing techniques can be used to finish certain matches. The SNES version also has its own move set and differs from the arcade version in a few ways

Killer Instinct | ROM-DOWNLOAD Story

Killer Instinct is based on the deadly Ultratech tournament where a group of deadly fighters fight each other. Each fighter enters the Killer Instinct tournament with their own motivations, abilities and personal connections to the larger world. Instead of a long cinematic campaign, the story of the game is mostly told through characters, progression of the tournament and individual endings. Fighters like Jago, Orchid, Fulgore, Cinder, Glacius, Sabrewulf and Spinal all bring their own identity and fighting styles to the tournament. The player moves through fights and learns the powers and special moves of the fighter he selected.

Killer Instinct | ROM-DOWNLOAD Gameplay

Killer Instinct is a 2D fighting game in which two characters fight each other in a side-view arena. Each fighter has quick, medium and fierce attacks, plus character-specific special moves. Players can chain attacks together into longer and longer combos, and use defensive moves to interrupt an opponent’s offensive run. The defining feature of the game is the combo system. A successful opening attack can lead into additional attacks, while the defender can attempt a Combo Breaker at the appropriate moment. Also available to players are finishing techniques such as Ultra Combos and No Mercy moves, depending on the character and situation. Blocking is equally important. Players can block standing attacks by holding away from the opponent and can use down-and-back positioning to defend against low attacks. Learning when to block, counter and interrupt an opponent's combo is an important part of the game's combat system.

How to Play Killer Instinct | ROM-DOWNLOAD

Select a fighter and enter the tournament or a local versus match to play Killer Instinct. In combat, use the D-pad to move, crouch and jump, and punch and kick buttons to attack with different strengths. Start with fast attacks and build them up into combos. Use standing or low block depending on the incoming move when the opponent attacks, and learn the timing needed for combo breakers. Once you are comfortable with your character, practise special moves, Ultra Combos and finishing techniques. The game rewards those who understand attack timing, defence and combo opportunities, not just players who just press buttons over and over.
