The King of Fighters 2003 (abbreviated to KOF 2003 or KOF '03) is a 2D fighting game developed and published by SNK Playmore for the Neo Geo. It is the 10th installment in the King of Fighters series and introduced major changes to the traditional team battle formula. The game features three-character teams, but unlike the traditional fixed team order during the fight, players can now freely switch between their team members mid-battle thanks to the new Multi-Shift system. KOF 2003 also introduced the Tactical Leader System, in which the first character selected in a team is chosen as its leader, and can perform a special Leader Desperation Move. These systems are faster and more dynamic than the previous entries. It also marks the beginning of the Ash Saga of the series, with Ash Crimson as the main character. The Neo Geo MVS version was released in December 2003 and the Neo Geo home cartridge in March 2004. It was the last King of Fighters game released on the original Neo Geo hardware.

The King of Fighters 2003 is set two years after the events of The King of Fighters 2001. A new King of Fighters tournament is announced, but the identity and purpose of its organiser remain a mystery. The tournament heralds a new generation of conflicts, and the Ash Saga begins. The story introduces Ash Crimson as a major new character, and the rivalries and personal problems of existing fighters such as Kyo Kusanagi and Iori Yagami continue. The tournament also features new fighters like Duo Lon and Shen Woo, and the story includes several returning characters from previous KOF games. As the tournament progresses, the player will be pitted against increasingly powerful foes, including the game’s special boss battles.

KOF 2003 stays true to the series’ classic fast-paced 2D fighting gameplay, but makes a huge change to how teams battle. Each player chooses three fighters, but now the Multi-Shift system allows you to swap out fighters during the match. You can’t just change whenever you want. The timing of when a character can be tagged is decided by CHANGE OK. A match is three members of each team fighting as a group, rather than the older format where characters were generally defeated one at a time before the next member entered. When a fighter is tagged out the incoming fighter joins the fight and the outgoing character does not automatically heal lost health. The game also features the Tactical Leader System. The first character chosen for the team becomes the leader of that team and receives a special Leader Desperation Move. This offers players an additional strategic element in constructing their three-character team.

How to Play King Of Fighters 2003 | ROM-DOWNLOAD

You must choose three fighters to play The King of Fighters 2003 and be careful when choosing your first character since that fighter becomes the leader of the team. In combat, use the Neo Geo joystick to move, jump and crouch and the four buttons for light and strong punches and kicks. Build your Power Gauge during combat and use special moves and Desperation Moves when the time is right. When you see CHANGE OK, use the correct Multi-Shift combo to get another of your team members into battle. Your tagged character does not regain lost health so switch should be used strategically and not randomly. Fight until one team has lost all 3 members . If the time runs out , the team with the most combined remaining health wins .
