The story of Project Justice takes place after Rival Schools: United by Fate. The world of the game revolves around a few Japanese high schools, their students, the rivalries, friendships and strange events happening between the different high schools. The story focuses on Batsu Ichimonji, one of the main characters from the previous game. Batsu and the gang are caught up in another series of weird happenings that are hitting the schools. What appears to be yet another battle between rival students gradually becomes a much larger conspiracy. A mysterious organisation and its schemes start to affect events around the schools. But the students who had their own rivalries before now have to work together to find out there's something far more dangerous going on behind the scenes. The story focuses on the dangerous and mysterious Kurow Kirishima, who is connected to the game's central conflict. His actions create tension between the various characters and threaten the friendships built up during the events of the previous game. Familiar characters like Batsu, Hinata, Kyosuke and others get involved in the investigation. It’s not just about fighting for school pride. The characters need to figure out what’s going on, and who they can trust. The story of the game is told through character interactions, fighting sequences, dialogue and dramatic events. The player is able to see the game’s large cast of characters through the eyes of different teams, which gives different perspectives on the conflict. One of Project Justice’s most recognisable elements is its school setting. Instead of the fighters being professional martial artists in a traditional tournament, the game depicts them as students with different personalities, friendships, rivalries and personal motivations.
