Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game The story starts when the Turtles’ trusted friend and news reporter April O’Neil is kidnapped by the dangerous Foot Clan. It’s all part of a larger scheme by Shredder, the leader of the Foot Clan and the Turtles’ greatest foe. Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo and Raphael discover that April has been kidnapped, and immediately leave their home in the sewers to save her and thwart Shredder's plans. The Four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles navigate the streets of New York City, battling through large groups of Foot Soldiers. The Foot Clan has taken over a number of strategic locations and the city is a dangerous place. As they travel through streets, buildings, sewers, factories and other areas the Turtles have to battle increasingly powerful enemies. Each Turtle has a different fighting style they bring to the adventure. Leonardo carries twin swords, Donatello carries a long bo staff, Michelangelo carries nunchaku and Raphael carries twin sai. While their weapons and abilities are different, all four Turtles have the same objective: save April and defeat the Foot Clan. As the Turtles move through the city they come across a lot of different Foot Clan soldiers. Some of the enemies attack with weapons, others with special abilities or weird movement patterns. The Turtles have to fight their way through large groups of enemies while avoiding environmental hazards and traps. The Foot Clan doesn't just send in regular foot soldiers to take on the Turtles. Throughout the adventure, several powerful villains from the TMNT universe appear to stop them. The Turtles are up against dangerous enemies such as Bebop and Rocksteady, two of Shredder's most powerful henchmen. The villains are much more powerful than the regular grunts , so these fights serve as significant obstacles . The Turtles also come across Baxter Stockman, a genius but dangerous scientist, who is working with Shredder and the Foot Clan. Baxter uses his inventions and scientific knowledge to create more problems for the heroes. The Turtles must face these threats before they can move on to their final showdown. The journey takes the Turtles through many different environments. They battle their way through the city streets, underground and industrial locations and other areas of New York as they search for April. Each new area has different enemies, challenges and obstacles. The Turtles’ adventure isn’t just about battling foes. They must also survive deadly traps and hazards of the environment. The Foot Clan has put up many obstacles to slow the heroes down. When faced with large groups of enemies, the Turtles must react fast, use their weapons efficiently and work as a team. This is especially important because the Turtles are fighting as a team. With two players, two different Turtles can join forces, making for a cooperative experience reminiscent of the arcade version. By working together, all the players can control different sides of the battlefield and defeat enemies more efficiently. The Turtles get closer to Shredder, the battles get tougher. Stronger enemies come out and the heroes have to use everything they have learned on their journey. The villains try to keep them from reaching the Foot Clan’s last stronghold. The Turtles are in the final stages of their mission and prepare for their showdown with Shredder. The leader of the Foot Clan is determined to destroy the Turtles and keep his grip on the city. The final battle is the ultimate test for the Turtles' skills. Shredder employs mighty attacks and attempts to overpower the heroes. The Turtles must dodge his attacks, find openings to hit him and keep fighting until they finally beat him. The Turtles accomplish their mission by defeating Shredder and the Foot Clan forces. April O’Neil is rescued, Shredder’s plans are thwarted and the immediate danger to New York City is stopped. The story of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game is presented in a classic arcade style, with a focus on action and cooperative fighting, rather than lengthy cinematic sequences. That said, the game captures the feel of the classic TMNT animated series well with the four Turtles, April O’Neil, Shredder, the Foot Clan and a number of familiar villains. The adventure places players in the middle of one of the Turtles' classic battles against Shredder and his criminal organisation. The Turtles will have to battle their way through many enemies, treacherous environments and powerful bosses from the opening rescue mission to the final confrontation before they can restore peace to New York City.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up that emphasises fast melee combat. Players can choose from one of four playable Ninja Turtles. All Turtles have a different weapon so the characters have slightly different combat styles. Players battle enemy groups as they move left to right through each level. The primary objective is to kill enemies and keep going through the level. The fighting system is simple and easy to learn. Players can attack enemies with their Turtle's weapon, and jump to avoid attacks/jump attacks. Different enemies demand different approaches. Some enemies can be dispatched quickly while stronger foes need to be attacked repeatedly. During stages you can collect food items to restore health. These items are helpful if the player’s health is low. Throughout the adventure, there are boss battles. Each boss has a different attack pattern and players need to learn when to attack and when to dodge incoming attacks. The game includes a two-player co-op mode as well. Two players can choose different Turtles and fight through the stages together. Cooperation is especially useful when there are lots of enemies on screen. Players can attack enemies from many angles and help each other survive difficult encounters. The NES version also has more content than the original arcade game, giving players more areas and challenges to explore.

Two Player Mode: Join forces with the other player. Two Turtles on screen makes dealing with groups of enemies easier. Continue through all the stages and defeat the bosses. Finally, get to the final confrontation with Shredder. Battle Shredder and fulfilll the Turtles' mission to rescue April and the Foot Clan.
