Contra 4 occurs after the events of Contra III: The Alien Wars. Red Falcon is back, and this time with a new threat to humanity, so Contra soldiers Bill Rizer and Lance Bean are forced back into action. Soldiers will have to fight their way through heavily guarded battlefields, filled with enemy troops, machines and alien creatures. The enemies they face also become stronger and they face dangerous bosses as they progress. Their mission: To stop the Red Falcon menace and prevent another disastrous invasion

Contra 4 is a classic run-and-gun action game that emphasises speed shooting jumping and dodging enemy attacks. Players go through levels fighting enemies on all sides. The action can spill over the two screens in the Nintendo DS's dual-screen setup, giving players additional vertical space to play with. The player is able to travel from screen to screen and fight enemies coming from various locations. Players can collect a variety of weapons during the game which they can use to change their attack style depending on the circumstances. In each level, the player must avoid projectiles, traps, moving platforms and other hazards.

Control your character through each stage while shooting enemies and avoiding incoming attacks. Collect weapon power-ups to improve your firepower and use jumping and movement to avoid enemy projectiles. Pay attention to both DS screens because enemies and obstacles can appear above or below your character. Reach the end of each stage and defeat the boss to continue through the game. In multiplayer mode, work together with another player to defeat enemies and progress through the stages.
