In this fantasy world, the player begins an adventure in a world where monsters and other dangers threaten the kingdom. Players travel through different areas, defeat enemies, collect treasure, and get stronger through RPG-style progression. The goal ultimately depends on the particular Dokapon game, but it’s usually to become the strongest adventurer and complete the required goals while fighting other players. The game is not a traditional linear RPG, but a competitive game against other players. When another player defeats the player, steals money or interferes with plans, the player’s progress can be changed dramatically.

Dokapon mixes board game movement with RPG combat. Players move around a fantasy map and depending on the space they land on they experience different events. When battle starts, players fight enemies using RPG-style commands and abilities. Winning battles gives experience, money and items that can be used to upgrade the character. The player can purchase weapons, armour and other gear as he/she progresses. Competition is one of the most memorable aspects of Dokapon. Players can attack or interfere with other players, which leads to surprises in the game. Therefore, Dokapon can be both strategic and unpredictable. A player who seems to be winning can lose the advantage suddenly after an unlucky event or loss.

Choose your character and start the adventure on the game board. Explore different spaces on the map and move around to discover enemies, shops, treasures, and special events. Use your RPG commands and abilities available to you to kill monsters when you run into them. Winning fights yields experience, cash and handy items. Go to shops to purchase stronger weapons and armour, and upgrade your character as much as possible. Other players are to be aware of, as they may attempt to disrupt your progress or confront you. Complete objectives and try to complete the adventure in front of your opponents while carefully managing your money, equipment, health and position on the board.
