Story

The story begins in Pallet Town, where the player receives their first Pokémon from Professor Oak After choosing Bulbasaur, Charmander or Squirtle the young Trainer starts to travel Kanto, meeting other Trainers, exploring new locations and catching new Pokémon along the way. Your rival is also going on a journey and is a recurring challenge throughout your adventure. As the adventure continues, the Trainer must defeat eight Gym Leaders to obtain badges to qualify for the Pokémon League. Meanwhile, Team Rocket is on a rampage throughout the region with their criminal Pokémon activities. The player has to face off against the organization while still managing to train their team and fill out the Pokédex. The Sevii Islands are a place to search around in, with some side quests and things to do after key story moments to add to the adventure beyond just the main Kanto journey.

Gameplay

Pokémon FireRed features turn-based combat, where players can choose moves and make strategic decisions in battles. Pokémon come in many types, stats, abilities and moves so having a well-rounded team can go a long way in defeating Gym Leaders and other tough opponents. You get experience for winning battles which allows your pokémon to level up and learn moves and sometimes evolve into stronger forms. Another important part of the game is also exploration. Players travel between towns, routes, caves, forests and other locations, where they can find wild Pokémon and battle with Trainers. Poké Balls are for catching new Pokémon, and items, Pokémon Centers and shops help along the journey. The Sevii Islands are additional locations and activities. Compatible connectivity features allow trading and battling with supported Pokémon games and hardware.
