You become a hunter in a world where dangerous monsters are attacking villages and settlements. Hunters have a duty to safeguard communities and perform a variety of missions. The player starts with basic gear and gets stronger over time by completing quests and hunting tougher monsters. Resources collected over the course of hunts can be used to craft better weapons, armour and useful items. The hunter is then presented with more difficult quests as they progress, where the monsters are more powerful and the challenges are tougher.

Monster Hunter is about taking quests to hunt monsters. Before a mission starts, players can choose weapons, armour, items and supplies for the target and the environment. While hunting, players move through various areas, looking for monsters, watching their behaviour and striking when the chance arises. Combat requires precise timing, as powerful monsters can deal a lot of damage. Players can carve monsters for materials after a hunt is complete. You can then use such materials to create and upgrade equipment.

Select a quest from the village and prepare your equipment before beginning the mission. Choose a weapon that suits your playstyle and bring healing items, ammunition, or other useful supplies. Enter the hunting area and explore the different zones until you locate your target. Study the monster's movements and attack patterns. Avoid unnecessary attacks and strike when there is a safe opening. After defeating the monster, collect its materials and return to the village. Use those materials to craft stronger weapons and armor, then take on more challenging quests.
