Galaga: Destination Earth is a classic Galaga arcade series, fast-paced Game Boy Colour shooter that has the player taking control of a space fighter defending Earth from waves of alien attackers. The game is divided into four main stages: The Explorer Fleet, The Rings of Saturn, The Alien Planet and The Battle on the Moon. Players must dodge enemy attacks, destroy formations, survive increasingly difficult waves and upgrade their firepower whenever possible. A special mechanic enables captured ships to be recovered, giving the player's fighter increased offensive power. The Game Boy Colour version features colourful 2D graphics scrolling designed for the handheld platform, compared to the 3D presentation of the other versions. After the main sequence is completed, the game also supports arcade style score chasing and repeatable stages. It was released in North America on September 25, 2000. It is still a compact handheld adaptation of the Galaga formula.

Galaga: Destination Earth |ROM-DOWNLOAD Story

Galaga: Destination Earth is an arcade-style space shooter that is based on the Galaga series and released for the Game Boy Colour. The player pilots a space fighter that must defend the Earth from successive waves of attacking alien spacecraft. The basic story is the familiar Galaga concept of surviving increasingly difficult enemy formations while protecting humanity from an alien threat. The Game Boy Colour version keeps the fast-paced arcade action of the series, but adapts the experience for a handheld system. The USA Game Boy Colour release was developed by Pipe Dream Interactive and published by Hasbro Interactive. Release date: September 25, 2000. The adventure is set in a variety of space-themed locations. Unlike the usual adventure or role playing games, the game is based on clearing waves of enemies and surviving each stage. Players control their fighter as alien formations enter the screen and attack from multiple directions. The goal is simple : kill invading enemies , avoid their attacks , survive each wave , and keep moving through the game . In the Game Boy Colour version there are four main stages: The Explorer Fleet, The Rings of Saturn, The Alien Planet and The Battle on the Moon. The game has a compact, but challenging arcade-style structure with several waves of enemies in each stage. After completing the fourth wave of the Moon stage, the game will return to the first stage, but with later waves, so players can keep trying for higher scores. Thus the story is mostly told through the arcade-style setting rather than long dialogue or cinematic sequences. The player is the last line of defence against an alien invasion with each successful wave bringing the fighter closer to surviving the full attack.

Galaga: Destination Earth |ROM-DOWNLOAD Gameplay

Galaga: Destination Earth is a classic vertical shooter style game brought to the Game Boy Colour. The player pilots a small spaceship, constantly battling groups of alien enemies. Enemies will appear on the screen in formations, with a variety of movement patterns and attack strategies. Players move their fighter, shoot at enemies, and dodge attacks. The game features four different scrolling environments and a series of waves of enemies. The stages are The Explorer Fleet, The Rings of Saturn, The Alien Planet and The Battle on the Moon. While each area is visually different, they all feature the same fast-paced shooting mechanics. One of the important elements of gameplay is the ability to improve the player’s firepower. The Game Boy Colour version allows players to reclaim ships captured by Galaga command ships. If the player recovers the captured fighters successfully, the player’s offensive strength is increased, which increases the player’s chances of surviving later waves. MobyGames, in particular, mentions the ability to upgrade weapons and to double firepower by re-taking ships. Enemy patterns are a big part of the challenge. Players must learn the various ways enemies move and be able to spot dangerous attack patterns. Some enemies will move in formations across the screen, while others will be able to come directly into the player's position. The limited screen space on the Game Boy Colour makes positioning very important. The game also implements the famous arcade principle of score chasing. Players can easily destroy enemies, avoid unnecessary hits and try to survive as many waves as possible. The stages eventually repeat, so experienced players can play on to improve their score and performance. Unlike the PlayStation and Windows versions, the Game Boy Colour release does not feature the same 3D presentation. Instead it employs a 2D scrolling style made for the handheld hardware. According to MobyGames, the portable version is an arcade shooter with 2D scrolling and four different backgrounds.

How to Play Galaga: Destination Earth |ROM-DOWNLOAD

Start the game and play the first stage. Move your spacecraft around the play area with the directional controls to place yourself under enemy formations. Your main goal is to destroy incoming enemies before they can attack or hit your fighter. Just keep shooting, watch the enemy dodge. Don’t stay in one place too long, because enemies can change attack patterns and move towards your ship. You can avoid incoming attacks and create better firing positions by moving from one side of the screen to the other. Attack the enemy formations that are easiest to destroy first, then the more dangerous attackers. Knowing the movement patterns of each enemy type will make later waves much easier to deal with. If one of your fighters gets captured by a Galaga command ship, try to destroy the command ship and get the captured ship back when you can. Bringing ships back into play can increase your firepower and provide you with a major advantage in the later waves. The game has four main stages. Finish their waves in order and keep pushing for the Battle on the Moon. At the end of the fourth wave of the last stage, the game goes back to the first stage and subsequent waves, so you can continue playing and increase your score. Galaga: Destination Earth is an arcade shooter, so there is no traditional RPG-style character progression or a large inventory system. It's all about moving, shooting, patterns of the enemy, survival and improving your score.
