Unlike a traditional story-driven campaign, Go Vacation doesn’t have a detailed narrative, main antagonist, or scripted adventure. Instead, the game revolves around exploring a large vacation resort and participating in the various activities offered in the area. Players create and customise a vacation character and then explore the resort. They travel to different places and find new things to do , new challenges . Completing activities allows players to experience more of what the resort has to offer and gives opportunities to collect items and customise their character. The game is driven by exploration and participation, rather than storytelling. There are no major story missions that require players to defeat enemies or save a world. The main thing is to enjoy the virtual vacation, find new activities, improve your performance and have fun with other players.

Go Vacation is a big resort world with sports, adventure, exploration, racing and mini-games. Players are afforded a great deal of freedom in deciding which activities they'd like to engage in, and how they want to explore the different areas. The resort is split into a number of themed areas such as Marine, Mountain, Snow and City. Each area offers different activities and scenery. Players can move between locations on a range of transport, and find activities throughout the resort. Sports and recreational activities are the heart of the game. Players can enjoy tennis, beach volleyball, skiing, snowboarding, horseback riding, cycling, kayaking, racing and other activities depending on the location. The Wii uses motion controls for many activities to make the game play more interactive. Depending on the activity, players may have to move the Wii Remote or use the Nunchuk to execute actions. Go Vacation also includes a multiplayer mode, which lets friends and family members participate in supported activities with one another. This makes it a great game for casual gaming groups.

Start Go Vacation and create or choose your vacation character. Players can enter the resort and explore the areas available to them, looking for different activities. Move your character around the resort and interact with activity spots. Different areas have different sports, races and recreational challenges. As you start an activity, read the instructions on the screen and use the Wii Remote or Nunchuk controls needed for that activity. Some need buttons, others motions. Players can also move around the resort using different vehicles and transport. The more you explore the environment, the more activities, locations and collectable items you find. Complete activities to increase your performance and unlock more content. With character customisation, you can also change your appearance with different clothing and accessories. For multiplayer, connect the necessary Wii controllers and choose a suitable activity. Then players can play together or compete against each other, depending on the event they choose. The main goal is to explore the resort, find activities, get better at your skills, and enjoy the different vacation experiences throughout the game.
