The ancient evil, the Dragon King, Onaga, has come back, threatening the realms. Fighters of various factions become involved in the battle to halt this powerful foe. Konquest Mode supplements the story of the game by exploring, missioning, battling and interacting with characters of the Mortal Kombat universe. As the player progresses, they meet familiar fighters, dangerous enemies and events related to the larger Mortal Kombat story. The PSP version contains the main story elements of Mortal Kombat: Deception, plus new fighters and an exclusive Endurance mode.

Mortal Kombat: Unchained is primarily a 3D fighter. Players choose a fighter and fight opponents with punches, kicks, special moves, weapons, combos and devastating finishing moves. The arenas feature multiple tiers and interactive elements so fighters can traverse the environment and use hazards to their advantage. In addition to regular fighting, the game has several gameplay modes. Konquest Mode is more like an adventure, Chess Kombat combines fighting with chess-style strategy, and Puzzle Kombat offers a puzzle-based mini-game. The PSP version also features Endurance Mode, where players fight through a never-ending stream of opponents.

Choose your fighter and select a game mode. Directional controls let you move around the arena and string together attacks for powerful combos in battle. Use the block button to counter incoming attacks and learn each character’s special moves for more offensive options. Use arenas with interactive areas and combat with weapons when possible. Defeat your opponent before the timer expires to proceed to the next fight. Konquest Mode: Explore the environments, interact with characters, complete objectives and participate in battles. If you want some more challenges, try out Endurance Mode, Chess Kombat, or Puzzle Kombat.
