There is no story mode in MotoGP with characters and cinematic chapters. Rather, the game is set in the cutthroat world of professional motorcycle racing. The player's goal is to participate in races, improve skills, beat other riders and work toward becoming one of the most powerful competitors on the track. Players can select from well-known racers of MotoGP and race in different racing scenarios. It’s more of a competition than a story, so your progression comes from completing races, beating lap times, winning events and unlocking more content. The game has a licensed racing atmosphere to it, with the likes of Valentino Rossi and other famous racers to make it feel like a real MotoGP contest. The progression system also gives players reasons to keep racing. Perform well and you can gain access to things like more riders, special content, movies and racing options. It gives the single-player experience a sense of progression, although there’s no traditional story mode. Players can also challenge other riders directly through one-on-one competition. These events are about finding out which rider is quicker and they can provide a more concentrated racing challenge than a full field race.

MotoGP is the top class of motorcycle road racing. You control a motorcycle with a chosen rider and race against other racers on racing circuits. Simple goal: Do the laps you need to, as fast as possible, and beat the competition. You have to balance acceleration, braking, steering and racing lines to control the motorcycle. If the rider rides too fast into a corner, he may lose control or run wide. If he brakes too early, he may lose valuable time. So it is important to learn the layout of each circuit to be competitive in lap times. The game features a variety of racing experiences including Arcade, Time Trial, One-on-One and wireless multiplayer modes. Completing the game also unlocks rewards and other content for the PSP version. In Time Trial you aren’t racing against a field of opponents but trying to better your lap times. This mode is great for learning circuits, practicing corners and finding faster racing lines. You can race one-on-one with another rider, or go multi-player and have several PSPs battle each other wirelessly. The game blends the realism of motorcycle racing with the accessibility of a handheld experience. Players can concentrate on keeping their speed, cornering well, avoiding crashes and staying ahead of their opponents.

Start MotoGP and from the main menu choose the race you want to play. Select a rider and start a race or practice. Once the race has begun, you’ll steer the motorcycle around the circuit using the analog stick or directional controls, and use the face buttons for accelerating and braking. Watch for acceleration – especially when you’re going into a corner. Slow down before a sharp turn using the brake. Then steer through the corner. Once the motorcycle is aligned with the exit of the turn accelerate again and build speed along the next section of track. Be mindful of the racing line and the position of other riders. Following a clean line through corners is an effective way to maintain speed and reduce unnecessary movement. Try to avoid collisions as much as possible, as losing control can cost you several seconds. In Time Trial, aim to do consistent laps and beat your best time. Focus on braking points, corner entry, corner exit, and acceleration, rather than just driving as fast as possible. In One-on-One races, the important thing is to stay close to the opponent and take advantage of errors. Multiplayer support allows players to compete with friends using the PSP wireless Ad Hoc functionality, with the game supporting up to eight players. Players can continue racing to unlock more rewards and content. You'll get to experience more of the features available in the game as you complete challenges and improve your performance.
