The story takes place in a dream world in which humans are in constant danger from creatures from Nightmare. The story is about two children, Claris Sinclair and Elliot Edwards, who are having nightmares that stop them from fulfilling their dreams. In their dreams, they meet NiGHTS, a Nightmaren who defies the ruler of Nightmare. Nites becomes a key ally to the children and helps them fight against the forces that are trying to destroy their dreams. Dream adventures of Claris and Elliot. By entering Nightopia they are able to meet Nites and become involved in a battle against the Nightmarens. Eventually the player takes control of Nites who flies through a variety of dream worlds. The goal is to defeat enemies, collect Blue Chips, obtain Dream power, and prevent the forces of Nightmare from taking over. The story is not a traditional realistic adventure but a mixture of fantasy, dreams and surreal images. The dreamlike setting is perhaps the most noticeable aspect of the game. The characters will battle ever more powerful foes throughout the adventure, culminating in a battle with the ruler of Nightmare.

Nites into Dreams... is a primarily 3D aerial action game that is all about movement, speed, score, and exploration. The gameplay involves the player controlling Nites as he flies through specially designed dream worlds. Nites can fly freely through the air, doing loops instead of just walking through levels. One of the major gameplay elements is the collection of Blue Chips and their transport to the Ideya Capture area. Players must maintain their momentum as they collect objects and evade enemies. Nites can do a number of aerial moves, like loops and special moves. These skills enable players to fast travel between stages and create combos. The game is very focused on getting high scores. You can get more points and create more valuable combos by performing things one after another without stopping. There are several objectives and challenges at each stage. Players need to manage their time left while performing the necessary tasks. There are also boss fights in the game. Bosses require different tactics and often test the player's ability to move, fly and attack effectively. Nites into Dreams... rewards both casual play and repeated attempts. Players can replay levels to improve their scores, find better routes and learn the movement system.

Choose a character and enter one of the available dream levels to begin the game. When Nites shows up, use the directional controls to fly around the environment and locate the necessary objectives. Keep your speed up and grab Blue Chips and other useful items. Do some aerial stunts and fly through loops to increase your score and make combos. Keep an eye on the timer, each stage is timed. Avoid enemies and obstacles if you need to, or attack them if it helps you continue your route. Try to collect enough Dream power and fulfilll the stage objectives before the time runs out. In boss fights, you need to watch the boss for openings to attack, and watch his movement. When you clear a stage, replay it to boost your score and find more efficient methods. Knowing the layout of each stage is important as experienced players can string longer combos and score significantly higher.
