5.0

Based on the original movie, RoboCop introduces the legendary futuristic cop to the Game Boy in a classic 2D action adventure. You play RoboCop, fighting your way through crime-infested city settings filled with enemies and environmental hazards. Gameplay is a mix of side scrolling movement, weapon based combat, beat-em-up elements and platforming challenges. RoboCop’s heavy armour and slow movement give the game a different feel than faster action titles. Players must carefully manage their movement and attacks, learning the patterns of the enemies and avoiding taking unnecessary damage. The Game Boy version simplifies the visuals for Nintendo’s handheld, but keeps the familiar RoboCop feel. With single player missions and simple arcade style action, the game provides a compact retro experience for fans of classic licensed games. The USA version was released in December 1990 and has the product ID DMG-CP-USA

Robocop |ROM-DOWNLOAD Story

The story of RoboCop is set in the universe of the original film. RoboCop is a cyborg police officer designed to combat crime in a dystopian Detroit, where violent gangs and corporate interests have made law enforcement harder and harder to do. RoboCop’s mission is to bring law and order and protect innocent civilians while facing criminals all over the city. The game takes this basic premise of the movie and turns it into a series of action stages. The player has to make his way through dangerous locales and kill threats. As RoboCop moves through the game he will run into criminals and other hostile characters who will try to stop him. RoboCop's movement must be carefully controlled and the player must remain alert as the streets are filled with enemies and hazards. The game doesn’t attempt to recreate every scene from the movie like a modern story-driven adaptation might. Instead, it uses characters and setting from the film, as well as the police theme and ideas for action, as the basis for its arcade-style gameplay. The focus of the experience is RoboCop’s mechanical body. His armour can defend him from attacks that would be deadly to a normal human, and his weapon gives him an advantage over enemies at a distance. Ultimately, the player’s goal is to complete missions and take down criminals that threaten the city. Each level offers a new challenge, with enemies, obstacles and environmental hazards making progress more and more difficult. The Game Boy version is especially interesting in that it takes the larger cinematic RoboCop concept and turns it into a portable action game. The environments and characters are depicted with simple sprites, due to the limited hardware, but you can still identify RoboCop’s basic identity. The game thus provides players with the role of a futuristic police officer in a series of compact action stages, rather than a long cinematic campaign.

Robocop |ROM-DOWNLOAD Gameplay

RoboCop is mostly a 2D side-scrolling action game. Players control RoboCop through levels with enemies and hazards to dodge. RoboCop’s weapon is the core element of the combat system. Positioning is an important part of the game, as players can attack hostile characters from afar. Enemies can attack from different directions so players have to be aware of the screen and react accordingly to the threats coming in The movement of RoboCop is, intentionally, a little heavier than many classic platforming characters. This fits with the armoured look of the character, and provides a change of pace from fast-action games. Players have to navigate each stage carefully, fighting off enemies and avoiding environmental hazards. Going forward without being aware can do damage that is not needed. Of course, the Game Boy hardware means the game has a simpler visual presentation than its arcade and home-console counterparts. But despite that limitation the developers keep the core action formula and the recognisable RoboCop atmosphere. According to GameFAQs, the game is categorised as Action > Beat-'Em-Up > 2D. It is a single player experience. Every meeting is different and requires a different approach. Some enemies can be dealt with from a distance, but other situations require careful manoeuvring to avoid damage. Players need to learn enemy patterns and when they will attack. The challenge in the game is partly in controlling RoboCop’s movement. The character doesn't move as fast as a typical action hero, so players can't always count on quick reflexes. Knowing the layout of a stage and what to expect from enemy attacks can make your progress much easier. The portable format also makes the game a great option for shorter gaming sessions. The game also allows players to complete stages individually, without having to go through the long sessions that come with larger console or computer games.

How to Play Robocop |ROM-DOWNLOAD

Initiate the game and become RoboCop. Your main aim is to make it through each level, while fending off criminals and other dangers. You can move RoboCop around the environment using the directional controls. Keep an eye out for enemies coming up ahead or from different angles. Always try to attack enemies from a safe distance using RoboCop's weapon. Keeping your distance can lessen the amount of damage you take. Don’t run up on the stage. RoboCop is a slower-paced game, so moving too fast can lead to running into enemies or environmental hazards. Observe the screen carefully and memorise the enemy patterns. If your opponent keeps attacking from the same spot, wait until the right moment to respond, rather than moving straight into the attack. If you're in a tough spot, don't try to kill EVERY enemy right away, just focus on surviving. Sometimes it is better to avoid doing unnecessary damage than to try to eliminate every opponent. Keep on walking the stage until you get to the goal of it. As the game progresses, later sections can get harder and harder, and it becomes more and more important to conserve your health, and learn the behaviour of your enemies. For emulation, set up the Game Boy controls so that the directional pad and action buttons are easy to reach. Depending on the emulator, you can use a keyboard or a compatible controller.
