Shadow of the Colossus is an atmospheric action-adventure game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Japan Studio. The game was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2005. The story is about a young warrior, Wander, who ventures into a mysterious, isolated land to find a way to bring back a girl named Mono. Instead of fighting a world of common enemies the player must find and defeat 16 giant creatures called Colossi. Every meeting is a massive test of observation, climbing, timing and puzzle-solving. It's famous for its huge landscapes, thin story, memorable soundtrack and emphasis on epic boss battles. Wander journeys across the forbidden land on foot and on horseback, in search of the next Colossus. Each creature has a specific design and style of attack and the player needs to discover its weaknesses before landing the fatal blows. The original PS2 version is a single player affair, and is focused on exploration, atmosphere and strategic combat rather than your run of the mill action game progression.

Story
It all began when Wander took Mono to an ancient temple in a distant land that was forbidden. He meets a mysterious being called Dormin in an attempt to revive her. Dormin may be the key to reviving Mono, but not without a cost. Wander must locate and destroy 16 Colossi scattered across the land. Wander left with his sword, bow and faithful horse Agro. As he journeys across the great landscape he discovers the whereabouts of the Colossi and comes across creatures that are often far bigger than anything he has faced before. With each win he gets closer to what he wants. But as he moves forward the task is clear that it has consequences. There is relatively little dialog in the story. The story is mainly told through the environments, music shifts, character animations, and your encounters with the Colossi. This restraint invites players to interpret the events and to consider the cost of Wander’s determination to save Mono.
Gameplay
Shadow of the Colossus features exploration, platforming, horseback riding, and puzzle-based boss battles. Instead of battling hordes of regular enemies, players are mostly focused on locating the next Colossus and figuring out how to bring it down. To help find them, Wander uses a special sword that can reflect sunlight in the direction of the targets. Once a Colossus is found, the player will then have to study its movement, possible climbing paths, and glowing weak points on its frame. These weak points are normally protected by thick armor, awkward placement or dangerous motion. Climbing is one of the basic game mechanics. Wander must cling to fur, ledges and other surfaces, and hold on as a Colossus tries to shake him loose. Losing grip strength at the wrong time can lead to a fall, so stamina management becomes a key. Players also have to know when it’s safe to move and when to wait until the creature settles. Agro is a quicker way to get across the open landscape, and is an important part of several encounters. The horse can help Wander to reach remote areas quickly and keep up the momentum, and can be used to get some Colossi in a more effective way. The result is a game where exploration and combat are one and the same, and every major encounter is a puzzle to be solved through observation and timing.

How to Play Shadow of the Colossus | ROM-DOWNLOAD
Start Shadow of the Colossus and play through the main story as Wander. Walk on foot through the forbidden land or ride Agro to far away places. Use the reflection of the sword to find the next Colossus, then observe its movements and look for a way to scale its body. You can grab surfaces, manage your grip stamina, and move to the creature’s weak points using the grab button. Hit those weak points with the sword and avoid moves that could throw Wander off. Use the bow if you need to attack from a distance or get a creature's attention. Each Colossus presents a different puzzle for you to solve as you make your way through, so keep an eye on your surroundings and adapt your strategy as needed. When you're done with the campaign, go back and play the battles again in Reminiscence or Time Attack and try higher difficulty settings for more challenge.
