Space Invaders for Game Boy Colour takes the core concept of the classic arcade series and gives the player a simple task: defend Earth from waves of invading alien forces. There is no story in the normal sense of a story involving characters, rather it is a constant battle of surviving ever larger enemy formations with your spaceship. The invaders attack the player’s position with their own weapons, requiring the player to move, shoot, dodge and use defensive options effectively. The GBC version adds other gameplay elements to the classic formula. Power-ups can upgrade the player's abilities and defensive shields can absorb attacks and provide temporary invulnerability. There’s also an evasive technique, which provides players with another defensive option when enemy fire is difficult to avoid. Boss enemies is another important gameplay thing. The GBC version adds larger battles that require the player to pay attention to attack patterns and positioning, instead of just recycling the same old waves over and over again. Some extra variety is added to the backgrounds and enemy sprites, so the handheld version feels more like a fleshed-out adaptation, rather than a straight conversion of the original arcade game. Co-op play is also available to allow two players to face off against the invading forces. This brings a new level of experience, as players can cover different parts of the screen and work together to survive enemy formations.

Go to the main menu and select the matching gameplay option to start the game. Once the action begins, keep your ship near the bottom of the screen and move it left or right to avoid enemy attacks. The main goal is to destroy the invading aliens before they reach the bottom of the playfield. Fire your weapon by pressing the A or B button and move your ship with the Control Pad. Watch the enemy formations because the more the stage progresses the more the invaders change position and become more dangerous. You can move around to avoid shots coming your way , but also being in the right place is important when trying to attack certain enemies . You can also add power-ups to improve your ship’s capabilities, with defensive shields to help you stay safe from enemy fire. Use these advantages wisely and do not waste them immediately. When a boss shows up, concentrate on learning its movement and attack pattern, all the while dodging incoming fire. The game also features different types of ships so try out the different options available to find one that fits your preferred style. In two-player gameplay, cooperation is important, because the two players can cover different areas and can help clear enemy formations more efficiently. As the stages get more difficult, quick reactions become more important. Try to keep the formation from getting too far, and get rid of dangerous enemies before they reach the lower part of the screen.
