The game is a 2D side-scrolling platformer that includes platforming, exploration, enemies, obstacles, collectibles, and invention objectives. Flik can jump from platform to platform, explore different areas, find important objects, and attack some enemies with berries. The Game Boy Color version is a simple handheld platforming experience developed separately by Tiertex Design Studios, unlike the 3D PlayStation version. The USA release was published by THQ on 2 December 1998 and has Product ID DMG-APXE-USA. A Bug’s Life is a nostalgic Game Boy Color title, with movie-inspired characters, colorful environments, a single-player adventure and classic handheld gameplay.

A Bug's Life |ROM-DOWNLOAD Story

The story is set on Ant Island where a colony of ants lives under constant pressure from a group of grasshoppers. Hopper and his gang of grasshoppers intimidate the ants into bringing them food, believing the colony can bring them enough food. Flik is a worker ant whose inventions are not always welcomed by the rest of the colony. Most of the time he is busy with inventions he thinks can make their life easier for the ants. However, some of his inventions cause unforeseen problems, and the other ants often regard him as a troublemaker rather than a hero. When Hopper and his grasshopper gang pose another serious threat to the colony, Flik decides something has to change. He begins to look for a way to protect the ants instead of letting the grasshoppers keep the colony under control. Flik goes on an adventure to find warrior insects to help the colony fight Hopper's gang. On the way he has to go through dangerous places, find important objects, collect materials and fight against hostile insects. The Game Boy Color version follows the general idea of Flik's journey, but simplifies the story for a handheld. The player experiences Flik’s adventure directly through a series of side-scrolling stages, rather than the more cinematic presentation used by some console versions. A large portion of Flik’s journey is to find parts and resources for his inventions. These objects serve to characterize his creative personality and give further objectives in the platforming stages. As Flik’s adventure continues he meets different insects and obstacles that try to prevent him from his goal. Some enemies can be avoided, some can be attacked with berries. Hence, the player needs to mix careful movement with rudimentary combat. The central goal is to help Flik gain the respect of the other ants and figure out a way to deal with the grasshopper problem. His journey turns the tiny and insignificant ant into an important character who can help his entire colony.

A Bug's Life |ROM-DOWNLOAD Gameplay

A Bug's Life for Game Boy Color takes its cue from traditional 2D side-scrolling platform gameplay. You play as Flik, guiding him through levels full of platforms, enemies, environmental hazards, collectibles and objects related to his inventions. The game is built on its motion. Flik moves from one side of the stage to another, jumping across platforms and avoiding hazards. Players need to time their jumps carefully, since falling or coming into contact with dangerous enemies can deplete Flik's health or otherwise impede the player's progress. There are also elements of exploration in the game. Players are encouraged to explore the areas rather than just move forward toward the end of a level. The parts and objects of the invention are important stages. Another big problem is with enemies. The player must either avoid or attack grasshoppers and other insects that can often be seen in Flik's path. Flik can use berries to hit some enemies, giving him a basic ranged attack. The 2D depiction of the game makes the adventure very different from the 3D incarnations on the console. The Game Boy Color hardware limits the environments to a side-scrolling perspective, but this also provides a simple platforming structure that is easy to understand. The game is mainly single-player and progression. No multiplayer campaign, online mode or competitive mode. The player's objective is to guide Flik through the adventure and to face the challenges presented by each stage.

How to Play A Bug's Life |ROM-DOWNLOAD

Start the game and select the main adventure. You will play as the main ant character, Flik. Using the D-pad you control Flik as he traverses the side-scrolling world. Carefully navigate through different areas and look out for platforms, obstacles, enemies and useful objects. Jump across gaps and unsafe areas as necessary. Timing your jumps is crucial as some platforms and obstacles require precise movement. Enemies will appear and you will have to decide whether to avoid them or attack them. Flik can attack some enemies with berries, which lets him defend himself as he makes his way through the level. Rather than running straight to the exit, enjoy the stage. Some areas have objects and pieces related to Flik's inventions. These items may be important to locate to be able to progress in the adventure. Keep a close watch on Flik's position when you are near enemies. Sometimes you get bugs that are mean, that can make moving through a stage harder. So it helps to know how your enemies move. Progressing through the levels and completing their objectives. The overall adventure is about helping Flik get the things he needs and finally to deal with the threat of Hopper and the grasshoppers. The game uses a standard handheld platforming structure so players can slowly get used to the controls, enemy patterns, jumping distances and stage layouts.
