Breath of Fire II |ROM-DOWNLOAD Story

Breath of Fire II is a classic Japanese style role-playing game developed and published by Capcom for the Game Boy Advance. The game centers on Ryu, a young warrior and the last known member of the Dragon clan. Ryu's father and little sister disappear following a mysterious event in his childhood, leaving no clear answers as to what happened to his family. Years later Ryu embarks on a journey that slowly unveils the secrets behind his past, his Dragon heritage and a growing evil that threatens the world. The game was released in Japan in 2001 and in North America on April 16, 2002 for the Game Boy Advance. The product ID of the USA version is AGB-AB2E-USA. Ryu’s adventure begins in a world where there are humans, dragons, monsters, magic, strange civilisations and mysterious religious powers. Along the way he meets a wide variety of strange companions that can accompany him on his journey. These characters have different skills, personalities and fighting roles. As the group becomes caught up in a much larger conflict involving supernatural powers and an ancient evil, the plot slowly unfolds around Ryu’s search for his lost family. One of the most important parts of the story is Ryu’s ability to transform into different Dragon forms. His background as a Dragon is tied to the world’s history and becomes more and more important as the adventure progresses. The player learns more about Ryu's abilities as they explore new areas, meet important characters and complete story events. There are also a number of memorable places in the game such as towns, forests, caves, castles, dungeons and other fantasy environments. Players have to talk to the residents, explore places, find important items, beat the enemies and solve problems to move the story along. The adventure combines classic fantasy storytelling and character development, exploration and turn-based RPG battles. The GBA version retains the core storyline and gameplay of the original Breath of Fire II while adapting the game to Nintendo’s handheld system. It also takes advantage of the portability and control scheme of the Game Boy Advance, so you can take Ryu’s adventure on the go.

Breath of Fire II |ROM-DOWNLOAD Gameplay

Breath of Fire II uses the traditional Japanese turn-based RPG style of play. Players take on the role of Ryu and a party of companions in exploring a vast fantasy world. Outside of battles, players can move through towns, fields, dungeons, caves and other locations, interact with characters, collect items, buy equipment and move through the storyline. Battles generally begin when the party encounters enemies while exploring areas outside towns and inside dungeons. When the combat starts, players choose commands for their characters, and then watch the chosen actions occur. Physical attacks are good against normal enemies but with stronger opponents spells, special abilities and items become more important. The game features plenty of enemies, bosses, weapons, armours, items and abilities to discover. Ryu is one of the most important characters because he can become a Dragon. These transformations allow him to take different Dragon forms and use powerful abilities in battle. Other members of the party specialise in other areas, such as physical attacks, magic, healing, defence and unique character abilities. In the game players can also customise their party and develop characters through battles and equipment. Characters gain experience and their abilities and statistics improve. During the adventure, the party can purchase or discover better weapons and armour to fight more powerful enemies. Another cool thing in Breath of Fire II is the town-building system. Players can build their own town and recruit a variety of citizens. These choices can alter parts of the game and offer additional activities outside the main story. There is also a system in the game called Shaman where some characters can interact with Shamans and learn different abilities. The GBA version keeps the old RPG format of the game, but makes it playable on Nintendo's handheld hardware. The mix of exploration, random encounters, party management, Dragon transformations, equipment, magic and story progression makes for a meaty adventure on the platform.
