Captain Cecil Harvey is of the Red Wings, the air force of the Kingdom of Baron. Cecil questions the king's increasingly aggressive orders, is stripped of his rank and sent on a dangerous mission. This is the beginning of a journey that takes him all around the world. Along the way, Cecil meets allies such as Kain, Rosa, Rydia, Edward and other memorable characters. The group is drawn into a much larger conflict, with mysterious enemies and powerful crystals. Cecil must face his past, struggle and discover himself as he races to save the world from destruction.

Final Fantasy IV uses traditional turn-based RPG combat with the Active Time Battle system. Each character has unique abilities, such as magic, healing, physical attacks, summons, or special techniques. Players explore towns, castles, caves, forests, and other locations while progressing through the story. Battles occur against monsters and bosses, allowing characters to gain experience and become stronger. The Nintendo DS remake adds several improvements, including 3D environments, voice acting, enhanced character abilities, and the Augment System. Augments allow players to customize characters by giving them additional abilities.

Explore the world and follow the main story objectives. Visit towns to purchase weapons, armor, items, and equipment. Explore dungeons carefully while fighting monsters and collecting useful items. During battles, select commands for each character and use their individual strengths. Warriors can focus on physical attacks, while magic users can cast offensive or healing spells. Gain experience from battles to increase character levels and improve abilities. Equip stronger weapons and armor as you progress. Use Augments to customize characters and create useful combinations for difficult battles.
