The story begins with Crash Bandicoot confronted with yet another dangerous plan by his enemies. Neo Cortex and Nina Cortex are working to turn normal animals into giant monsters. These creatures become Titans, which Crash must eventually fight and subdue. Crash's journey is closely tied to the strange experiments that the Cortexes are doing. Crash finds that instead of using the mutated creatures as weapons against himself and the rest of the world, he can use their own powers against the enemies who created them. Throughout Crash, he encounters a variety of hostile creatures as he travels through different areas. Some are regular enemies, others are Titans with special abilities and are much more powerful. A big part of the adventure is learning how to deal with each type of enemy. Crash’s ability to commandeer Titans affects his strategy in battle. Having a powerful creature to control allows Crash to use its special abilities to take down other enemies and overcome difficult obstacles. The adventure slowly brings Crash closer to the source of the mutation experiments. Neo Cortex and Nina Cortex are still the main villains, and Crash must defeat their creations if he wants to stop their schemes. The story retains the comedic personality of the Crash Bandicoot franchise, but gives the character a new breed of combat-driven adventure. Crash is still the energetic, unpredictable hero players know, but the Titan-jacking mechanic takes his journey in a new direction. The general goal is simple; navigate the hazardous terrain, utilize Crash’s full potential and the acquired Titans, defeat the enemies that obstruct you, and prevent the Cortexes from executing their plan.

Crash of the Titans is all about action, fighting, jumping from platform to platform and coming across enemies. Players control Crash as he navigates through various areas and battles creatures concocted or affected by the Cortexes' experiments. Crash’s fighting style is acrobatic, and he can use punches, kicks, combos, and special attacks. Timing and movement are important, as enemies can surround Crash or attack from different directions. The game’s most recognizable mechanic is the ability to jack enemy creatures. Instead of just defeating certain powerful enemies Crash can actually take control of them and use their abilities. The game features a wealth of controllable enemies, including Titans like Scorporilla, Ratcicle, Magamadon, and Shellephant. Each Titan has different offensive abilities. Depending on the creature, Crash can gain powerful attacks, projectiles, special effects or unique ways of dealing with enemies. This makes the decision of when and how to deploy a Titan an important part of combat. Crash can also improve his combat skills as the adventure goes on. Players can power up skills and unlock additional attacks and stronger combinations, offering more depth to the combat system than simply using the same attack repeatedly.
