Dante's Inferno - Shinkyoku Jigoku-Hen |ROM-DOWNLOAD Story

Dante's Inferno: Shinkyoku Jigoku-Hen is a dark action-adventure game for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) loosely based on the first part of Dante Alighieri's Divine Comedy, Inferno. The game follows Dante, a warrior returning from the Crusades, who discovers that his beloved Beatrice has died, and that her soul has been taken to Hell. Dante is determined to save her and he ventures into the underworld. He sets off on a dangerous journey through the Nine Circles of Hell. The handheld version for the PSP was developed by Artificial Mind & Movement and published by Electronic Arts. Dante is led by the spirit Virgil through the terrifying world beneath the Earth. Each circle is a different type of punishment. They are filled with demons, damned souls, monsters and powerful enemies. The deeper Dante goes into Hell the more dangerous the environments and the more intense the obstacles. The story is an amalgamation of the original literature and an action-oriented version for the video game. Dante’s adventure begins when he comes face to face with Death himself, who hands him the mighty scythe that is his main melee weapon. Dante descends into Hell to find Beatrice. He has to battle his way through foes and confront the forces that keep them apart. His journey finally leads him to the presence of Lucifer, who occupies the last position in Dante's descent through Hell. During the story Dante meets characters and figures based on classical literature and religious imagery. The game translates these ideas into large combat encounters, environmental obstacles, platforming sections and boss battles. Dante’s own guilt and past are also part of the journey, creating a progression in which the character must face both external enemies and the consequences of his own decisions.

Dante's Inferno - Shinkyoku Jigoku-Hen |ROM-DOWNLOAD Gameplay

Dante’s Inferno is a third person hack-and-slash action game that emphasizes fast melee combat, ranged attacks, dodging, blocking, platforming and cinematic finishing moves. The PSP version keeps the core combat concept of the larger Dante’s Inferno experience, while tailoring the game for Sony’s handheld hardware. Dante's main weapons are a large scythe and the Holy Cross, which allow him to attack at both close range and far away. The scythe has a light and a heavy attack that can be chained into various attack combinations. The Holy Cross lends itself to ranged attacks, and magic skills offer more offensive options for Dante. And there are many directions from which enemies can attack, so defensive maneuvers are just as important. Players can block incoming attacks, dodge dangerous strikes and reposition Dante in the heat of battle. One of the main game systems is Dante’s advancement through Holy and Unholy abilities. Players can then use souls collected in combat to unlock and improve abilities, allowing them to develop Dante’s combat style as they progress. This allows the player to choose to make melee attacks stronger, ranged attacks stronger, magic abilities stronger, and other combat options. The game also features interactive environmental sections. Dante is able to cross gaps, climb surfaces, swing from grapple points, walk through platforms and activate mechanisms. Certain sections mix combat and environmental obstacles that require timing, like moving quickly between platforms or avoiding hazards. Boss fights are bigger and more complex than normal fights. Many bosses have special attack patterns to learn and avoid. When an enemy is vulnerable, Dante can activate an on-screen command to initiate a finishing sequence. These sequences will often require the player to press the correct buttons that will be shown. The PSP version was built around a single-player action experience. According to GameFAQs , the PSP version is a single-player linear action-adventure game, with no online multiplayer.

How to Play Dante's Inferno - Shinkyoku Jigoku-Hen |ROM-DOWNLOAD

Start the game and choose new game from the main menu. Dante starts off with his basic combat skills and slowly gains access to additional attacks, magic, upgrades, and relics. Move Dante through the environments using the analog nub and explore each area for enemies, collectibles, health, magic and paths to progress. When enemies appear, press the Square button for light scythe attacks, or the Triangle button for stronger attacks. The Circle button ejects Dante's Holy Cross, providing you with a ranged option for when enemies are difficult to reach. The X button is used for jumping, but it can be combined with other actions for movement and combat techniques. Defense is important, especially against bigger enemies. You can block with L2, and evade attacks with the analog nub. Dante's shoulder buttons also serve as modifiers for special combat techniques. When enemies are weak enough, R2 can trigger some contextual actions and finishing sequences. R1 is used for a lot of contextual interactions when investigating, such as opening doors and activating environmental mechanisms. In some areas Dante must grapple points, pull objects, operate switches or swing across gaps. Pay attention to the prompts that appear on screen, as some actions will depend on your surroundings. As you defeat enemies you gather souls and use them to upgrade Dante's abilities. Try different upgrades, not just one attack type. Melee combat performs adequately against regular enemies and ranged and magic attacks can serve as good alternatives in difficult fights. Boss fights need more patience. Observe the enemy's attack patterns, block when necessary, dodge dangerous attacks, and look for opportunities when the boss is vulnerable. When a contextual prompt appears, move toward the enemy and perform the action required to initiate a finishing sequence.
