The story starts with Daniel Lamb waking up inside the Dixmor psychiatric asylum. Daniel has been in a mental institution for six years, suffering from amnesia and unable to remember who he is or how he got there. As Daniel attempts to run, he learns that his old life is tied to a secret research program known as the Pickman Project. The experiment has gone disastrously wrong, and powerful forces are determined to keep the truth from leaking out. Daniel isn’t alone in his head. He feels Leo Kasper, a mysterious and violent personality, who plays a significant role in his journey. Leo acts as a guide as Daniel tries to figure out what happened to him. After escaping the asylum, Daniel searches for answers. He goes to different places and meets people related to his past. Each discovery unlocks another fragment of the Pickman Project mystery. The deeper Daniel digs the more tangled his memories become. He starts to question what is real, what has been manipulated and how much of his past he can believe. The story examines themes of identity, memory, experimentation, manipulation and psychological trauma. Daniel’s relationship with Leo becomes more and more important as the story goes on. Slowly, the players realise that Daniel's past is far more complicated than he thinks. The story reveals information through flashbacks, dialogue, environmental clues, and psychological sequences. Eventually, the story leads Daniel to the people behind the experiments and forces him to face the reality of who he is. Manhunt 2 is primarily a stealth action title. Players must evade detection as they traverse hostile environments. Stealth is one of the most crucial gameplay mechanics. Daniel can hide in shadows and behind objects and remain undetected as enemies pass through the environment. Players can see the enemy move and wait for a good opportunity to advance. Charging into battle might bring more enemies and make things significantly harder. The game also lets the player use weapons and environmental objects. It is contingent upon the situation . Some times you have to hide , some times you have to shoot an enemy . Know thine enemy. Guards may investigate suspicious sounds or movements. Players have to pay attention to their surroundings and avoid unnecessary noise. The environments are constructed to provide opportunities for hiding and movement. Enemies patrol nearby, and dark areas can be used for hiding. The horror atmosphere is supported by scripted sequences and psychological moments. These sequences provide a link between the gameplay and Daniel’s deteriorating understanding of his own past. The PSP, PlayStation 2, Wii and PC versions share the same basic story and gameplay, but differ in controls and presentation. The Wii version uses the console's control scheme and the PSP version adapts the game to the handheld's controls.

Significant things, ways and clues can help you move on. If you need to, use distractions to draw enemies away from your path. When you have to confront someone, be very careful how you approach a situation. Fighting head-on can be dangerous, particularly if there are several enemies nearby. Watch Daniel's health. Don't do any unnecessary harm. Listen out for audio hints in the game. Footsteps, voices and other sounds can give valuable clues about nearby enemies. Listen carefully during story sequences, as dialogue is a good source of clues to Daniel's past. As the story develops, new fields and challenges open up. The enemies become more alert, the situations more complicated, and the difficulty increases. The best approach is generally a combination of observation, patience, stealth, and careful movement rather than direct confrontation.
