After his latest adventure, Captain Olimar is back on his home planet, but Hocotate Freight is struggling financially. Olimar finds a valuable treasure on the mysterious Pikmin planet that may save the company. So he is sent back to the planet, this time accompanied by his assistant Louie. Olimar and Louie work together to explore the planet and search for valuable objects hidden across various environments. They use the Pikmin to carry treasures, vanquish hostile creatures, remove obstacles, and access otherwise unreachable locations. As the adventure continues the two of them find more and more valuable treasures and encounter dangerous creatures and mysterious underground places.

Pikmin 2 is a blend of real time strategy, exploration, puzzle solving and resource management. Instead of the player directly fighting enemies like in traditional action games, the player commands groups of Pikmin to do various tasks. There are multiple kinds of Pikmin, each with its own abilities. Players must choose what Pikmin are best for a certain situation. Red Pikmin are fire proof .Yellow Pikmin are electricity proof . Blue Pikmin are water proof. Purple Pikmin are strong and heavy . White Pikmin are poison proof and good at finding buried treasure. Players can throw Pikmin at enemies, obstacles, treasures and other objects. They can also order groups of Pikmin to bring objects back to the player's base. The game features underground caves with treasures, enemies, puzzles and randomly generated cave layouts. These caves have some of the hardest fights in the game.

Start by looking around the environment and finding Pikmin. Add more Pikmin to your group and split them into teams based on their talents. Use the right kind of Pikmin to get thru environmental blockades. Toss Pikmin at enemies to attack them or have them collect treasures and bring them back to base. Enemies and environmental hazards can kill your Pikmin, so keep them in view. Use the various types of Pikmin strategically, rather than sending the same type to every situation. Explore the underworld caves to discover valuable treasures and rare items. Underground areas can have tough enemies and puzzles so prepare your Pikmin carefully before entering. Keep gathering treasure and moving thru the world until you finish your goals.
