The game is about a homeowner who finds his house suddenly assaulted by an army of zombies. The player can use different plants with different powers to defend the home. As the invasion gets more dangerous, new types of zombies appear with different strengths and weaknesses. The player plants a variety of plants around the garden to stop the zombies from getting to the house. The adventure takes place in multiple environments, such as a daytime lawn, a nighttime garden, a swimming pool, misty areas, and rooftop stages.

Plants vs. Zombies is a tower-defense strategy game where players collect sunlight and use it to plant offensive and defensive plants. Each plant has its own job, with some attacking zombies, some providing sunlight, and others providing defensive protection or special effects. There are zombies coming to the house in different lanes and players have to organise their plants carefully to stop them. As you advance through the game, tougher zombies and more challenging environments appear. The game has Adventure, Survival, Puzzle and 5 different mini-game modes.

Use the seeds in the packets you have available and plant them wisely in the garden. Use Sunflowers or other sun-producing plants to generate sunlight . Spend sun on defensive plants and attackers . Watch the lanes as the zombies come for your house. Plants like Peashooters attack zombies . Wall-nuts slow them down . Specialised plants fight stronger zombies . Mix up your strategy and choose plants that can battle the new zombies as they show up. Continue protecting each lane until you kill all the waves of zombies.
