Story

The adventure takes place in the Unova region . The player sets off on a journey to become a Pokémon Champion while completing the regional Pokédex . The player receives their first Pokémon from Professor Juniper and soon meets their rivals and the mysterious Team Plasma. Team Plasma thinks Pokémon should be separated from humans and questions the human-Pokémon relationship. The player travels through Unova, and its ideology is integrated more and more into the main story. N is the central character in the story, a character with beliefs about Pokémon and humans that create a major conflict. Pokémon Black Version is closely tied to the legendary Pokémon Reshiram, and the story of the game builds up to major confrontations with Team Plasma and the Pokémon League. The journey takes the player through Gym challenges, important battles, Team Plasma encounters and the Pokémon League. Finish the main adventure to unlock other activities and postgame exploration.

Gameplay

In Pokémon Black Version, turn-based Pokémon battles involve choosing moves, health management, type advantage, and team composition. Each Pokémon can have different types, abilities, stats, moves and strengths. One of the biggest changes in Generation V is that Pokémon are fully animated during battles instead of being completely static. Visual updates were also given to status effects and attack animations. The game features the Triple Battle, where one side can have three Pokémon, and the Rotation Battle, where three Pokémon are grouped together, and the player chooses which Pokémon is actually battling the opponent. These systems give more strategic possibilities than the traditional one on one fights. The game world also changes with the seasons. Seasons can change environments, Pokémon availability and access to certain areas.
