Pokémon Platinum Version is a role-playing video game developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo DS. It is a re-imagined third version of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl and takes players back to the Sinnoh region for an expanded Pokémon adventure. It was released in Japan on September 13, 2008, and in North America on March 22, 2009. The European release was in May 2009. The game adds more story, new Pokemon forms, larger areas, new battle facilities, and the mysterious Distortion World, centred around Giratina. Players begin their journey in Twinleaf Town and travel throughout Sinnoh while catching and training Pokémon, challenging Gym Leaders, exploring routes and towns, and eventually working toward the Pokémon League. Platinum also continues the storyline from Diamond and Pearl, with a greater role for Team Galactic and the inclusion of Giratina's Origin Forme and the Distortion World.

Pokémon Platinum is set in the Sinnoh region where the player begins his journey in Twinleaf Town and then sets out to become a Pokémon Champion and complete the Pokédex. The adventure takes you travelling between towns and routes, battling Gym Leaders, catching and training Pokémon, and investigating what Team Galactic is up to. Team Galactic’s plans become more and more important as the story progresses. Eventually, their activities lead the player to the mysterious Distortion World, a strange realm connected to Giratina. The Distortion World differs from the normal Sinnoh environment in that it has weird spatial rules, leading to puzzles and exploration segments that are not like normal routes and caves. Giratina is a big part of the extended story in Platinum . It is seen in its Origin Forme . Dialga and Palkia also play key parts in the plot surrounding Team Galactic and Sinnoh's legendary Pokémon.

Pokémon Platinum has the classic turn-based Pokémon battles, exploration, collection, training and progression. Players explore towns, paths, caves, buildings, forests, and other areas, where they encounter wild Pokémon and other trainers. When a battle starts, the player picks moves from the available attacks of the active Pokémon. The outcome depends on type advantages, Pokemon abilities, stats, status effects, and move selection. Pokémon can gain experience from battles and level up, learn new moves and evolve. Along with battling, player is allowed to control a team of Pokémon, explore the Sinnoh region, collect items, visit Pokémon Centres, purchase supplies and progress through the Gym challenge. Platinum also adds expanded content and battle facilities compared with Diamond and Pearl.
