Story

The player travels to the Hoenn region and embarks on a journey as a brand-new Pokémon Trainer. After a first meeting with Professor Birch, the player receives their first Pokémon and starts exploring the surrounding routes. The player meets rivals, discovers new species, visits towns and battles Gym Leaders along the way. Every victory gets the Trainer one step closer to qualifying for the Pokémon League. Team Magma is a major conflict, as they want to awaken the legendary Pokémon Groudon to increase the land. As the plans of the group are revealed, the player must confront the members one by one while still strengthening a team of Pokémon. The story blends the familiar objective of becoming Champion with a regional conflict concerning Hoenn’s environment and legendary Pokémon.

Gameplay

In Pokémon Ruby, the battles are turn-based. Players choose moves, plan based on type advantages, maintain their team’s health and catch wild Pokémon to expand their collection. Battles give Experience . Experience makes pokemon stronger and allows them to evolve . The game also adds Abilities and Natures, which add more detail to Pokémon behavior and team building strategies. Progression is driven by exploration. Players can explore towns and routes, find items, explore caves and water routes, and collect eight Gym Badges before challenging the Pokémon League. With two Pokémon on each side able to battle at once, Double Battles make move combinations and team selection even more important. Pokémon Contests are an alternative activity where Pokémon can compete in various categories, outside of regular fights.
