Super Mario All-Stars for Nintendo Wii is a special collection that combines four classic Super Mario platforming adventures on one Wii disc. The Wii version is based on the Super NES version of Super Mario All-Stars and was released as the 25th Anniversary Edition in 2010. This compilation consists of four separate Mario adventures instead of one continuous story, each having its own world, characters, enemies, challenges, and goals. It features four games: Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario Bros. 3. In Super Mario Bros., Mario journeys through the Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess Peach from Bowser. Players travel through different worlds filled with Goombas, Koopas, Piranha Plants, Lakitus, Hammer Bros and other enemies. Each world has several stages that lead to a castle where Mario will eventually face Bowser. Gameplay is simple platforming with hidden areas and secret blocks, Warp Zones, coins, power-ups and levels that get progressively more challenging. Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels offers a much harder adventure. Originally released in Japan as the sequel to Super Mario Bros. , it is known for its challenging level design. The game presents hazards and surprises that require careful manoeuvring and precise timing. Poison Mushrooms, odd level designs, hard jumps and other hazards make it more challenging than the original Super Mario Bros. Super Mario Bros. 2 has a different story and a different type of gameplay. Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Princess Peach are all playable characters, each with their own distinct movement attributes. Players are able to pick up objects and enemies and throw them instead of just jumping on enemies to defeat them. The adventure takes place in a dreamlike world, where the heroes must face Wart and his foes. Super Mario Bros. 3 adds to the adventure even more, with more worlds, power-ups, different landscapes, airships, special items and a wider range of enemies. Mario and Luigi travel through Mushroom Kingdom and other themed worlds in their attempt to stop Bowser and his Koopalings. Each game has its own progression and challenges, and the Wii collection feels more like a collection of four full classic adventures than one campaign.

Super Mario Bros. 3 takes the formula and adds a world map, new power-ups, special suits, different environments and bigger stages. The games are not shown with their original NES graphics but instead the Wii disc contains the enhanced Super Mario All-Stars versions with upgraded 16-bit-style graphics and sound. Super Mario Bros. 3’s world map lets you choose stages and move through various environments. Collect power ups, enter bonus areas, use special items and defeat bosses to advance through the worlds. Some power-ups give Mario abilities that are particularly useful for specific stages. The Wii version supports multiple controllers including the Wii Remote and the Classic Controller. The Wii Remote can also be held on its side for a more traditional control scheme, and the Classic Controller and GameCube controller offer alternate button layouts.
